Push Day Update

Switched Push day to the same ultra-low volume, true failure setup yesterday after my rest day, to keep managing fatigue and protect joint health. Dropped flat heavy barbell bench entirely, the rotator cuff stress and high systemic strain weren't making sense with current recovery levels. Reward/risk ratio are also not the bests with flat barbell bench

Workout Breakdown:

Incline barbell : 2 sets to absolute failure (100x6 then 90x8) + partials on final set
Incline Machine Chest Press (Neutral Grip): 2 heavy working sets to failure
Standing Cable Flyes: 1 set to failure
Seated DB Lateral Raises: 2 sets to failure + partials
Overhead Cable Triceps Extension: 2 sets to failure

Total: 9 working sets. (Kinda short 🤣)

Not the best chest density and side delt pump, though my shoulders didn't feel beat up at all like they usually do wich could be a great sign for recovery purposds.
Walking out after 40 minutes felt completely strange compared to my standard 16–20 working sets, and my nervous system didn't feel fried. Mental adjustment is the hardest part here, as it feels like I left work on the table.
 
Arm Day Update

Applied the ultra-low volume shift to dedicated Arm day this morning. Normally this session is packed with endless supersets, drop sets, and volume to chase a pump, but kept it strictly capped at absolute failure to test actual fatigue reduction and recovery output.

Workout Breakdown:

Barbell Preacher Curl: 2 sets to absolute failure + forced partials
Bayesian Cable Curl: 2 sets to failure per side
EZ-Bar Skullcrushers: 2 heavy working sets to failure
Triceps Rope Pushdown: 2 sets to failure + partials at the bottom
Heavy DB Hammer Curls: 1 set to absolute failure
Total: 9 working sets.

Arm pump was not as extremely sharp and localized, my elbows did feel completely pain-free for once. Biceps and triceps were twitching after, but systemic fatigue was basically zero. Again, it feels weird wrapping up an arm session in under 35 minutes when I'm used to slamming 18+ sets until complete exhaustion, but strength on each set was maxed out.

Next step: Will run this low-volume approach through the second rotation next week to see if logbook numbers actually jump from the lower fatigue debt.
 
Leg Day Update

Switched Leg day to the ultra-low volume, true failure setup today to cap systemic fatigue. Dropped heavy barbell back squats entirely, the massive spinal loading and total-body exhaustion just weren't worth the recovery debt with current stress levels.

Workout Breakdown:

* Leg Press: 2 heavy working sets to absolute failure + partials on final set
* Seated Leg Curl: 2 sets to failure + partials at full stretch
* Romanian Deadlift (Dumbbell): 2 sets to failure
* Leg Extension: 2 sets to failure
* Standing Calf Raises: 1 set to absolute failure
Total: 9 working sets.

Quads and hamstrings were completely torched locally, but I didn't have that typical post-leg day brain fog or feeling of total physical drain. Walking out of the gym in under 45 minutes felt weird compared to my usual 16–20 sets where I can barely make it to the car/upstairs 🤣

Next step: Completing the remaining low-volume experiment and reviewing logbook progress across all sessions to see if recovery and strength gains actuall
y improve.

Second Push session running this ultra-low volume, true failure setup. Energy levels and sleep have improved slightly, so I came into this session with zero residual fatigue from the back and leg days. Still keeping flat barbell bench completely out of the rotation :/

Workout Breakdown:

High Incline DB Press: 2 sets to absolute failure (40kg x 7, then 36kg x 9) + partials on final set
Chest-Focused Dip Machine : 2 heavy working sets to failure
Low-to-High Cable Flyes: 1 set to failure
Lean-Away Cable Lateral Raises: 2 sets to failure + partials
Single-Arm Triceps Cable Pushdown: 2 sets to failure

Total: 9 working sets. (Finished in under 35 mins 💀)

Sensations & Feedback:

Chest recruitment felt much cleaner today compared to the first Push session. CNS fatigue wasn't carrying over from previous days

Mental Take & Next Steps:

The mental adjustment of leaving the gym while still feeling physically energized is starting to get easier now that I'm seeing performance hold up on top sets. Neural drive was definitely higher today. Running the second arm rotation next to see if strength follows the same trend

Second arm session running the ultra-low volume protocol. Kept the intensity locked strictly at true failure while keeping total sets capped, continuing to prioritize max mechanical tension over high-volume pump chasing.

Workout Breakdown:

* Incline Dumbbell Curl: 2 sets to absolute failure + partials
* Dual Cable Biceps Curl: 2 sets to failure
* Katana Cable Triceps Extension: 2 heavy working sets to failure
* Single-Arm Cable Pushdown: 2 sets to failure + partials at the bottom
* Cross-Body DB Hammer Curl: 1 set to absolute failure
Total: 9 working sets.

local fatigue on both biceps and triceps with zero elbow issues or joint stress. Density held up great, and wrapping up in 35 minutes without the usual joint ache or systemic drain confirms the lower fatigue debt is working.
Mindset is still adjusting to stopping at 9 sets when the effort level on every single set is maxed.

Next step: Continuing to log performance metrics across the upcoming workouts to monitor progressive overload on the low-vol

* Leg Press: 2 sets to failure
* Leg Extension: 2 sets to failure + partials

Total: 9 working sets.

Quads and hamstrings were torched locally, but knees and lower back felt completely untouched with zero systemic fatigue or brain fog afterward. Out the door in under 40 minutes, and recovery between sets stayed noticeably higher throughout the session.

SUUULLLKKKK Bro!! first of all, I owe you an apology because I somehow overlooked this log update!! Going through it properly now, this is one of those logs that actually deserves attention because you’re documenting the process, not just listing compounds and numbers.

Honestly, What I like most is that you’re willing to change course when recovery tells you to. You started with the classic “more is more” mentality, 7 days, a lot of sets, everything pushed hard, and then you actually reacted to what your body was telling you. Dropping volume, removing movements with a poor fatigue-to-stimulus ratio and watching performance instead of ego is a very good sign.

At this point, I’d really like to see current front, side and back pictures, ideally relaxed and under the same lighting. You’re up several kilos from a very lean starting point, and photos would tell us much more than scale weight about whether that gain is going where you want it to.

The good part is obvious: your recovery seems better, joints are happier, systemic fatigue is lower and your second rotation already looked cleaner than the first. That’s exactly what you want to see when you reduce volume. The fact that you’re walking out of the gym feeling energized instead of destroyed is not a problem. It may actually be the lesson here.

I’d also like to see a couple of comparison shots from week 1 versus now, especially chest, delts, back and legs. You mention fuller muscle bellies and better density, so it would be useful to see whether that visual change matches the performance data.

The only thing I would caution against is going from one extreme to the other. You may not have discovered that “9 sets is perfect”. You may simply have discovered that 17 to 20 sets to failure with no rest days was more fatigue than you could productively use. That’s a big difference.

Same with failure. If every set is true failure plus partials, forced reps or drop work, you’re still creating a lot of fatigue inside those 9 sets. Low volume only works if the quality is high and recovery improves, not if you turn every set into a small war.

If possible, post leg pictures as well, not just upper body. You’re changing your leg training quite a lot, removing back squats, using hack squats, leg press and machines, and that’s exactly where photos can show whether the lower-fatigue approach is still giving you enough stimulus.

On the cycle side, I would keep the same logic. You’re already in a strong growth environment. I wouldn’t automatically increase doses because the calendar says “Phase 2”. If bodyweight, strength and measurements are still moving and your BP, glucose and bloodwork remain controlled, then the current setup is still earning its place.

And one more thing: don’t chase 92 to 95 kg just because it’s written in the plan. Starting at 80 kg and very lean means the first kilos will include glycogen, water and restored fullness. Judge the phase by how you look, how you perform and how much quality tissue you’re actually adding.

So if you can, give us one proper set of progress photos now, then repeat them every 3 to 4 weeks under the same conditions. That would make this log much more valuable, because we’d be able to connect the training changes, the scale and the visual result instead of guessing.

Overall, this is a very good log and the biggest positive is that you’re learning to manage recovery instead of simply trying to survive your own program. Keep the low-volume experiment long enough to get real data, let the logbook tell you if it’s working, and don’t add work just because a 35-minute session feels too short.

The goal is not to leave the gym destroyed. The goal is to come back stronger.

Keep updating this one, brother. And seriously, get those pictures up.
